Von Der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, underscored the need for investment in clean energy infrastructure in her recent mission letter to the Commissioner, which put forward action plans for electrification and the dedicated Clean Energy Investment Strategy for Europe(2). Secure and resilient infrastructure is crucial for protecting national interests and enabling effective responses to challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. Strong infrastructure, especially in manufacturing, logistics, and digital connectivity, can help reduce dependence on global supply chains and lessen the risks of disruptions. Furthermore, energy-efficient infrastructure supports the reduction of carbon emissions, contributing to Europe’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050(3).
